A couple weeks ago I put a deposit on a wonderful little shih tzu pup!
He is going to be my 20th birthday present!
I looked far and wide for a good breeder who was clean, responsible, reasonable in price, and most importantly a true animal lover.
When I found Bonnie Cole in Lettonia, Ohio I hit the shih tzu jackpot!
As I drove up to her home, I knew which one was hers without even looking at the address. It is a cute family home in a nice small neighborhood. A nice fenced in yard area with a couple dogs playing out in the sun was the first good sign I saw. She was waiting for me at the door, and happily welcomed me into her home where her husband and what seemed to be her son and his family were all relaxing in the living room. Family woman–good sign number two. When I really became excited was when she led me into a clean, simply decorated, cozy bedroom made into a kennel for the pups. In one corner, a crate of little puppies and their momma, and in the other a mother who had just finished giving birth a couple hours before. But you’d never know it. It really is a beautiful little kennel and is obviously extremely well cared for. Bonnie spread out tons of newspaper on the floor and got all the puppies out to play. The mother watched intently from her crate as we held and loved on her babies. We wanted to see the mother and father of course as well so she brought them both to the floor with us and the puppies and they were both sweet as can be. The momma walked around just checking on her babies, and then would visit my mother and I with a happy wagging tail. I was impressed that the mother was so kind to us as well as how appropriately protective she was of her young. Another good sign. By this point there was no doubt in my mind that we had found our breeder. And a week later I chose which puppy would be mine.
For some reason the site is not letting me post his picture, but I will add it in as soon as I can!
I decided to name my little guy Dobby (after the house elf in Harry Potter for those of you who aren’t potterheads!) and he comes home in just a couple weeks!
I’ve been going crazy searching for a new vet for him and buying everything I’m going to need, and also researching all about puppies and the very important moment of introducing my pup to my resident dog, Hunter.
I’m so excited to bring home my little dog and I’m also extremely pleased with the breeder who has raised him to this point in his life. She is a fantastic, passionate woman and if I ever want another dog, I’ll go back to her for sure.
So for any of you in the Western, PA or Eastern, OH areas (or anywhere really, Bonnie has even sent puppies on airlines and also had people come pick them up from other states!) who are looking for puppies, not only will you find a best friend in a little shih tzu, but you’ll also find an angel in Bonnie Cole.
Kelli Bryan wrote this after she decided to get her new best buddy from Beautiful Valley Shi-Tzu! She is a very sweet, beautiful, and loving young lady! Her words touched my heart sincerely! Thank you Kelli for your kind words and for being a great puppy mommie!
I just thought I'd send you this picture of Bentley. Everything is going good with Bentley and he is healthy and happy. In case you don't remember, he is from Pilla's 6-29-11 litter. I can't believe he'll be a year old at the end of the month!. I really enjoy having him, he is so sweet (most of the time) and adorable, not to mentioned spoiled. But I guess that's my fault. I saw the pictures from your latest litters and they are really cute puppies. Maybe someday Bentley will get a brother but for now he is enough! I just wanted to let you know how happy Bentley and I are and what a wonderful job you do.
I thought you would enjoy seeing a picture of Toby around the holiday season! He has been an absolute fantastic addition to the family. He has provided much fun and entertainment throughout the last couple of months. I can assure you, he is spoiled rotten! Any person who is interested in a shih tzu, I refer them to you because of how great Toby turned out! Approaching his first birthday, he's just shy of 9 pounds. I think its pushing it to say he will be over 10!
I hope you enjoy the season!
We took Barney on a trip with Penney & Lucy for 3 weeks to Louisiana & Texas. He did great. When he needed to go to the bathroom
he just let us know, by standing on the edge of the seat & looking down at his pad on the floor! He was as good as the other 2 dogs were about riding setting down on the seat. In fact he decided to ride in the back seat with the pug!!
My Mother fell in love with him, but wouldn't admit it. HA!
He just got his last shot this morning. He weighs 3 lbs. 6 oz. The vet said he was doing fine. He gets along with the other 2 dogs great. He never meets a stranger. Everybody just loves him.
Hi Bonnie -
Just wanted to update you on our little Ruby. She weighed a little under 1.5 pounds when we picked her up and we've been weighing her every day to make sure she's putting on weight. She just hit the 2 pound mark yesterday, and she's doing well. We took her to the vet once and she has another visit this week. She and Teddy are getting along so well. They play together all day long. We aren't surprised about Ruby playing with him, but he isn't that socialized, so that's been a good thing for him.
Ruby has NO fear, and runs after our cats and just about anything that strikes her interest. She is affectionate and adorable. We're getting her groomed next week, and we're interested to see just how small she looks when she doesn't have all of that hair.
When we took her to the vet the first time, EVERYTHING stopped. The woman who checked us in asked if she could take her to show to the owner, and everyone there with their dogs was fascinated with how tiny Ruby was.
We absolutely love her and there are no dull moments around our house these days.
Wow! What a great websight. However, the breeder and the pups are even more magnificent. We walked into Beautiful Valley Kennel looking for a pup as a playmate for our current Shih Tzu. We left feeling like we had found the perfect pet and made new friends along the way. Bonnie and her husband Glen are by far are the most accomodating couple we have worked with in a very long time. Our hats off to them and their animal family. This is a place where love is the standard and I will never look for an addition to our animal family anywhere else. Thanks for all your help and your friendship. Cindy and Ron!
